Xero
BMS keeps the operational record — jobs, orders, contracts, invoices — and Xero keeps the books. The Xero integration is what stops those two being typed in twice.
It has no screens of its own. Everything you do with it is in Admin → Entities, on the Organisations list, and on the chart of accounts and tax rates.
What it changes, though, is spread across the system: whether an invoice can be completed, what its completed date says, whether a period is locked, what tracking categories a job carries. Those are catalogued in Where Xero touches BMS — worth reading before concluding that one of them is a bug.
What you can do here
- Connect an accounting organisation to its Xero organisation.
- Compare the BMS chart of accounts against Xero's, and import from it.
- Do the same for tax rates.
- Let sales and purchase invoices flow to Xero, and payment status flow back.
What you will meet
An organisation is the accounting entity that connects to Xero — one connection covers every BMS entity under it. Authentication is the authorisation held against that connection, granted by a named user. A tracking category is Xero's own dimension, pulled in and stamped on BMS records.
