Tags
Tags categorise accounts, and the accounts index can be filtered to show only accounts carrying particular ones. Attach/Detach Tags on the index applies them in bulk.
The four types
There are four, distinguished by colour. BMS does not enforce what each is for — the conventions below are a useful default, and the value of tagging comes from your workspace picking one scheme and keeping to it.
| Type | Colour | Commonly used for |
|---|---|---|
| Global | Green | General categorisation that does not fit the others — business size, or which of your product categories the account would suit |
| Source | Yellow | Where the account came from — a marketing campaign, the staff member who generated the lead, any other source |
| Type | Red | The industry the account operates in, often broken down by specialisation |
| Private | — | Tags not shared across the workspace |
An account can carry more than one tag of a type — two Type tags where you are using them for both industry and business size, for instance.
Note
Pick a scheme before tagging at scale. Because the types carry no built-in meaning, a workspace where some people used Type for industry and others for size ends up with tags that cannot be filtered on usefully. The colours are only worth anything if they mean the same thing to everyone.
