Run a campaign

A campaign groups contacts so they can be worked as a batch — attached, then turned into tasks for the people who will make the calls.

Before you start

Know who you are targeting and how you will identify them. Attaching contacts works from a filter, so the campaign is only as good as the filter you can write.

Steps

  1. Go to CRM → Campaigns and add a new campaign. Give it a descriptive name — everything else is optional.
  2. Fill in the objectives and targets you actually want to measure against: status, budget, target revenue, actual sales, actual revenue, start and end dates, and a target number of opportunities.
  3. Select Attach Contacts to Campaign. Filter the contact subindex down to the contacts you want.
  4. Choose Attach to Campaign, then Attach ALL Contacts to attach everything the filter matched — or select specific contacts and use Attach Selected.
  5. Generate the tasks. Filter the attached contacts to the subset one person should call, select them, and choose Generate tasks for selected.
  6. Repeat step 5 per person, or select groups by hand without a filter.

What happens then

Each generated task appears in that user's task list. When they complete one they are required to log an activity, so the account's history records the contact and stamps it with the task's name — which is how you tell campaign contact from ordinary contact later.

If you are unsure about the targets

Leave them blank. Only the name is required, and a campaign with invented targets measures nothing.
