Read An Account

Published documentation for BMS Cloud.

Read an account

An account screen answers three questions at once: who are these people, what do they already have, and what have we said to them. In this walkthrough we will read one. Nothing here changes anything.

Before we start

You need a CRM role and any account to look at.

Step 1 — Open the accounts list

Go to CRM → Accounts.

You should see a long list with Latest Activity spanning three columns on the right — Type, Result and Date.

Step 2 — Read a row without opening it

Pick any row and read those three columns together: what the last contact was, how it went, and when.

That is the list's whole purpose. Call / Not Interested / 2018 and Call / Delete Contact / 2022 are very different situations, and you can tell them apart without clicking.

Step 3 — Open an account and find its status

Click into an account. Look at the header, beside the name: Account | ⟨status⟩.

That is where the company sits on the relationship ladder — suspect, qualified, prospect or customer.

Step 4 — Read the left column

Account Info carries the identifying detail. Two fields are worth knowing:

KDM is the key decision maker — the one contact who matters. Sales Area is who owns the relationship.

Step 5 — Look at Products

Below that, Products lists brands, categories and models.

This is what the account is believed to already have, competitors' equipment included. It is the reason to call: a company running machines that are ageing is an opportunity waiting to be raised.

Step 6 — Read the activity history

The Activities tab is open by default. Each entry shows the type and result, any note, and who logged it.

Look for one stamped via task '⟨name⟩'. That marks a contact made while working a campaign, rather than off someone's own initiative — useful when you are trying to tell genuine interest from a list being worked.

Step 7 — Check the other tabs

Opportunities shows deals being chased here. Contacts and Sites are the people and places. Assets is machines actually recorded against them.

What we did

You can now read an account: where the relationship stands, who to talk to, what they have, and what has already been said.
